Though, in recent years, John has concentrated on magazine journalism and design work, he is the author of three books - two official franchise tie-ins which he was hired to write by Boxtree.

The first of these was X-Men: The Essential Guide which provided a clear chronology of the Marvel Comic's expansive history. The book required extensive research but had a tight deadline and was completed in just over two months. A year later, Boxtree once again approached John for a tie-in book, the official 'Making of...' book for Barb Wire, a high-concept reworking of the Casablanca story with none other than Pamela Anderson in the main role.

As part of a massive promotional campaign, the book was serialised over an entire week in the UK's Daily Star newspaper.

John's third book was published by MAI Publications and dealt with swordplay in the movies. Bringing together interviews John had done in previous years and a huge amount of new material, The Cutting Edge was an extensive look at swords in the modern drama and action arenas. Interviews and articles included  dialogue with Sean Connery Antonio Banderas, Christopher Lambert, Bob Anderson, Valentine Pelka and many more.

While X-Men and Barb Wire are now out of print, copies are available through Amazon. The Cutting Edge is still available and John can be contacted through this site.
